Foaming Head

Barleywine

The term "barleywine" originated in Britian in the early 1800's.  Barleywine ales are strong in strength with high ABVs.  They can range in color from amber to dark brown and blackish colors.  The aroma and body of a barleywine have a wide ranging flavor scale, and can be anything from fruity to malty, to hoppy.

The English versions are usually more balanced and a little more mild in terms of alcohol.

Due to their high alcohol contents, barleywine ales can be, andin some occasions, are even encouraged to be aged.

The ultimate resource for beer drinkers!
